Working from home can be quite a challenging task considering the numerous distractions. However, if you work smartly, it can lead to increased productivity. With the outbreak of Coronavirus, most of the industrial giants & smaller companies are mandating its employees to work from home. Here a few dos & don’ts on how to increase your engagement & productivity while working from home:
Do: set your daily routine & stay organized
Plan out & organize your daily routine as you would at the office. Create an organized workspace to minimize distractions. Use to-do lists, sticky notes, calendars & filing systems to keep yourself efficient.
Don’t: let social media distract you
Don’t let that shiny new notification on your phone distract you from your regular work. It might be difficult to resist but you can check out those notifications during a break. Keep your phone away from your workspace to avoid unnecessary notifications.
Do: communicate your goals to your supervisor
Make sure you are in constant touch with your teammates & supervisor. You can use various tools like skype or zoom for video conferences. Make sure the area where you work has efficient internet connectivity.
Don’t: delay your deadlines
While working from home might make you at ease, but don’t get distracted. If you have a committed deadline to complete a task or project, make sure you meet the deadlines. Don’t make it due.
Do: take breaks for meals & exercise
You need to make sure you take enough breaks during the day for meals, exercise or a power nap. This will help you put more focus on work without staying sluggish. But remember not to get carried away by household chores.
Don’t: create a mess in your working area
Make sure the office space at your home isn’t messed up all around. You might even have to take a sudden video-call. A messy working area will not only distract you but also take most of your valuable time.
Do: dress up for the day
Get dressed up every day. Even if you take showers at noon, make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing. Avoid working in your pajamas. Make sure to avoid working from bed. It will make you lethargic.
Don’t: stick to 9-5 work time
While working from home, you can be flexible enough to take out more time & finish your work rather than postponing it for tomorrow. But make sure you take out time for your family after work
